Eccleston Mere Primary SchoolHere is my School, I think it is a wonderful place everyone is always happy and welcoming. The School usually achieves an outstanding OFSTED report, which I cannot take all the credit for as I have only been there since I was four! I did have a good deal of influence in Nursery and I think I can say that I was a valued member of reception, and now in year one well you can imagine how lucky they are to have me!! A few people in the past have been surprised when they discover I attend a mainstream School, all I can say is that I am lucky to live where I do, I know many Schools are not as well equipped to accept people who are as special as I am. It has recently been designated a National Support School. My helper and friend is Mrs Crook, I get to call her Paula, at least I will when I can. It was decided that I might have a chance of at least sounding out the first letter of Paula rather than having to battle to get my voice around Mrs Crook, so we are practicing ppppp all day. In addition, Paula is easier for my PA to remember as she calls everyone at Jacob?s School Mrs thing!!!! Paula really is great we have a giggle, she does not mind being covered in paint or anything else messy I can get my hands on, she has helped me learn so many things and I think she is a secret Mr Tumble fan!! Paula helps me with my Brain Training, but I will tell you about that on another page.Mr Friend used to be my Headmaster but now he is very important, as he has become Executive Head Teacher, which proves what a fantastic job he does. He is really nice and does not mind if I occasionally bop him on the way past! My new Head teacher is Mrs Kirk, she is really nice as well, I have had my name in her special book for good behaviour, it must have been one of my off days!! Only joking. I have made many good friends at this School both Teachers and pupils alike. My PA was going to move me in September to a School which only has pupils with special needs (gosh I really hate that phrase!) but I am now staying put, Hooray!!!!! for at least another year. The facilities are really good here: I get private gym time on a Tuesday morning, the membership was free and each visit costs nothing, bargain! I think I may introduce my PA she could do with the exercise, I wonder if I could get reward points for introducing new members? The small select group is a fun mix of Children with various difficulties and disabilities; we are an exclusive gang of which I am proud to be a member. My School curriculum is a little different from that of my peers. I have my own Individual Education plan, which focuses on my abilities and targets objectives such as self-help skills and use of PECs and Makaton. I join the class for some of their lessons which I enjoy especially dance as I can jump and spin around as much as I want to without being told off!!All the staff here know me and I know them, a few other people make up my main gang: Mrs Hodgson helps in my class I don?t ever remember bopping her, but there is still time, Miss Langley who is always good for a giggle and a game of hide and seek works in the office. So there it is......... MY A TEAM!
The reason I wanted to show my School on a page of its own is many people think Children with a disability cannot or should not attend mainstream School, well I am proof that if you choose the right School it can be a wonderful experience for everyone. The other pupils realise that we are not all the same and some people need more help and understanding than others, and the Child with disabilities gets to see how, when people are better informed and willing to accept everyone for who they are, there is nothing they cannot achieve.
